Getting Your Iowan State Tutoring License

Getting Your Iowan State Tutoring LicenseIf you want to teach in Iowa, you'll need a valid Iowan State Tutoring License. Like any other teaching licenses, you'll need to pass certain exams to ensure that you're a good fit for the job. The Iowa State Teaching Standards will give you a basic idea of what you need to do to pass. The Iowa State Teaching Standards (ISTS) allow you to complete one's Iowa State Tutoring License exam in two weeks. Each of the four sections of the ISTS has its own set of tests and evaluations. The three sections are the core subjects; a social studies test, a science test, and a science and math test.As with most standardized testing, the Iowa tests include two assessments. One is 'deep' or difficult subjects. The other is more open-ended, meaning you can take a test and still get a passing grade even if you fail on a difficult subject. For these, you'll need to take the test again to ensure that you were able to answer correctly. Some tests are multi-part. You will have to answer many questions in order to pass the test. When you take an ISTS, you will receive information about how much time is left for you to finish the test. Many tests in general will contain multiple choice questions. However, there will be questions that require you to write papers or essay responses. You may also be required to read some literature, perform some laboratory tasks, or complete other tasks. You'll need to prepare for all of these depending on your specific classroom assignment. It is a good idea to take an ISTEP with the same teacher who will be assigning you in the classroom. This way, you can be sure that you're getting exactly the same curriculum, expectations, and level of support that you will have in the classroom. You should also make sure that you're taking the same test with your prospective employers. In public schools, you are going to need to provide ID, proof of residency, and get a security clearance before you will be allowed to take the te st. This is to ensure that you will be honest and work with other students to help them learn the subjects properly. You'll also need to provide proof of insurance in case something unexpected happens during the test.To get a tutoring license in Iowa, you'll need to take an ISTS. The ISTS will help you learn all of the requirements of getting your Iowa State Tutoring License, as well as prepare you for the rigors of the real test. What Should You Know About Getting A Construction Supervisor License?

What Should You Know About Getting A Construction Supervisor License? If you're interested in becoming a construction supervisor or are already in one, it is important to obtain a construction supervisor license before continuing on with your career. In the United States, each state has its own state agency which regulates construction supervisors. As you prepare to obtain your license, you'll have to complete a training course that will help you qualify. A construction supervisor license means that you will be responsible for supervising the construction of any building or other structure within the state in which you hold a license. There are a number of different courses that are available and you will need to complete the same type of course in order to qualify for your license. You will first need to take a survey program, followed by an occupational safety program, and finally a fire fighting course. If you are interested in starting a construction business or if you are currentl y working in the construction industry, you may be required to complete an additional training course as well. The programs offered are usually either one-year courses or two-year courses, and although they don't offer the same career opportunities as an actual construction supervisor license, they can give you some knowledge about different construction techniques and safety procedures that are usually not taught during the survey program. The survey program will require that you go through basic education that includes classes on safety, construction, and environmental considerations. These classes will help you learn all about public works and how they work. Once you've learned the basics, you will have to take a series of practical and theoretical training programs that will be based on the kinds of construction you are going to be doing. Your training program will include topics such as designing projects, getting permits, and coordinating the construction process. The occupation al safety program will teach you all about health and safety regulations for construction sites. This includes environmental rules, standards for workers, and how to ensure the health and safety of the employees. It also includes materials handling, safety for workers and equipment, construction inspection, and other topics you need to know about in order to become a construction supervisor. One other important topic that will be covered is the appropriate use of tools. You will have to complete your survey program prior to applying for your license, and once you have completed this, you will need to complete the occupational safety program. This is because it will have to be the first thing you learned in order to get your construction supervisor license. It is very important that all supervisors are familiar with the guidelines and regulations set forth by the state's licensing agency. The other reason why you will need to get your construction supervisor license is because the requ irement states that you have to make sure that all workers on the job are covered under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA standards are designed to protect workers against specific health risks and this includes making sure that they are protected from airborne dust and toxic substances. It is also important to remember that you need to get your construction supervisor license in order to provide work protection for yourself and others on the job. Getting your license will give you a higher degree of safety for everyone that you work with.

Writing Equations in Slope Intercept Form

Writing Equations in Slope Intercept Form Equations of a line can be written in many forms such as the standard form, slope-intercept form, point-slope form etc. These forms express the equation of a line in different ways and represent a line in various equation forms. Slope-intercept form of a line is written by taking the slope and the y-intercept of a line and it is written as: y = mx + b, where m is the slope of the line, b is the y-intercept and, x and y are the variables of the equation. Example 1: Write the equation of a line in slope-intercept form which has a slope of 2 and the point where the line intersects the Y-axis as (0, 5). Given: slope of the line, m = 2 The point where the line crosses the Y-axis is known as the y intercept. Given the point (0, 5) - this gives the y-intercept, b = 5 Slope-intercept form of a line - y = mx + b Using the above equation, we get: y = 2x + 5 Therefore the equation of the line is y = 2x + 5. Example 2: Write the equation of a line in slope-intercept form which has a slope of 4 and the point where the line intersects the Y-axis as (0, -2). Given: slope of the line, m = 4 The point where the line crosses the Y-axis is known as the y intercept. Given the point (0, -2) - this gives the y-intercept, b = -2 Slope-intercept form of a line - y = mx + b Using the above equation, we get: y = 4x + (-2) Therefore the equation of the line is y = 4x 2.

3 Ways to Incorporate the Arts Into Your College Experience

3 Ways to Incorporate the Arts Into Your College Experience Courses in the arts can enrich and revitalize your college experience. Even if you are an engineering, psychology, or business major, taking a class in the arts or design disciplines can be enjoyable, stress-relieving, and enlightening. Many majors are cross-disciplinary, and you may be able to tie what you learn in your arts courses back to your major. So, how does a student in an unrelated major incorporate arts into his or her college experience? Read on to learn three ways to incorporate the arts into your college experience: 1. Fulfill general studies requirements with arts courses Nearly all majors require students to complete general education or general studies courses. This ensures that students have a well-rounded experience and are exposed to a multitude of ideas. So the next time you meet with your advisor, find out what general studies you have remaining and which might be fulfilled through an art course. Many history and theory courses in art, dance, theatre, film, music, and design offer historical or humanities credits, and might be more enjoyable than some of your other course options to fulfill the same requirements. Also, these courses might provide a bit of a break from your typical finance or electrical engineering courses, while also providing inspiration and even a new intellectual challenge. 2. Incorporate arts practice courses into your schedule Maybe you are a nursing major, but always loved drawing or ceramics. Or, maybe you are studying sustainability but miss filmmaking. Check your college catalog or speak with your academic advisor about arts practice courses that are open to non-majors. Many colleges and universities set aside seats in their introductory arts practice courses for non-majors to explore disciplines. Most majors allow a few electives. Taking a course in arts practice will help fulfill elective credits while nurturing your creative pursuits. If you dont have room for an elective or if youve already used your electives, consider taking on an extra course in the summerto fit in an art course. If you take a few courses and really love it, see an advisor in the creative discipline of your interest to find out about adding a minor. Minors might include theatre, film, dance, music, digital media, design, or art. 3. Enhance your major with a relevant arts course Majors and their corresponding careers are typically not independent of every other major or career. Instead, they are trans-, multi- or cross-disciplinary. You can use courses in the arts to enhance your major, and eventually acquire skills and knowledge for your career. For example, a computer science major may love programming, but he or she may also wish to learn elements of graphic and web design. Although computer science will have classes in programming and graphics, it may not delve as deeply into the artistic principles that make certain designs visually appealing. Similarly, a psychology major may not think the arts applies to his or her major, but there are several courses in music and art therapy that can help psychology majors understand the different methods of counseling to help people with emotional or behavioral disorders. As an additional example, a marketing major will learn all about targeting consumer markets and influencing consumer behavior, but he or she will rarely learn the creative and design side of marketing through his or her business program. Marketing students can benefit from taking a media design course to gain skills in graphic design, film editing, sound editing, and basic web programming. These skills will make them much more marketable when applying for jobs post-graduation. The arts is such a broad area that interests students of all backgrounds. Your college experience can be varied and include the arts despite your major. If you are interested in incorporating the arts into your college degree, dont hesitate to do so. Speak with an advisor and ask for help identifying how you can best fit these courses into your program of study.

Tips for Writing an Essay

Tips for Writing an Essay Throughout your many years of school, you will never avoid the essay assignment. This will be thrown at you over and over and over so many times that youll eventually look back and find yourself in disbelief that youve actually written that many essays. Whether youre analyzing literature for an English class, writing personal statements for college applications, or taking a stance on an issue for an ACT writing task, you are going to need the same set of fierce writing skills to compose a well-structured and logical essay. Some people have a better knack for writing than others and those natural inclinations cannot be taught but there are certain mechanics that if taken seriously, can allow anybody to put together a solid piece of writing. Identify the point of each paragraph. No matter how well-written an essay is, the greatness will be completely lost if the piece is dangerously unorganized. No one likes to read through an essay that sounds like a persons rambling inner thoughts with no clear direction. So prior to beginning each paragraph, ask yourself exactly what point you are trying to get across and then spend the duration of that paragraph covering that specific topic and only that specific topic. This will make your reasoning for the overall essay ten times easier to understand because the reader will be able to digest each part of it separately, one section at a time. You are eliminating the chances of a reader getting lost and not being able to process the ideas smoothly. Organize those points effectively. If your paragraphs are not placed in a logical order, that confusion you were hoping to get rid of will, in fact, arise. English teachers have been training you how to do this since elementary school, however, so it is likely you wont have an issue with it. But just incase, heres a reminder of the simple 5-paragraph essay a structure you can almost always count on to work for your essays purpose. Begin with an introductory paragraph that gives some brief context for what overall topic you will be addressing and then wrap it up with a thesis statement summarizing the points you will be making in your body paragraphs and how they will prove your main claim on the big subject. Follow up with these three separate body paragraphs, each addressing a point you identified previously; just make sure they are following each other in a subsequent order so each paragraph supports information from the one before it. Finally, end with your conclusion paragraph, re-stating your thesis and summing up what was said in your body paragraphs. Describing the elements of this well-known essay structure may seem silly, but its actually beneficial to be thoroughly reminded of its aspects since you may naturally want to breeze through it and unintentionally end up forgetting some of its key steps. Have a Thesaurus open and handy (a book or the website). Especially when youve been writing for hours on end and are getting tired and bored, youll be more likely to repeat words too frequently. As you are writing each individual sentence, it may not seem like a bad idea to describe things as intriguing, but when you look back and read through every sentence at a normal pace and see that word over and over, it will just be awkward and hurt the smooth flow you want your essay to have. So if you find yourself wanting to describe your points with the same handful of adjectives, go to your helpful resource for synonyms and save your essay from mediocrity. Read your words aloud. You will get such a better grasp of how your essay sounds and comes across if you speak your words out loud. It will give you a great idea of how the essay sounds off paper and in the mind of a person reading it. While youre at it, do your best to put yourself in the shoes of the teacher or proctor who will be grading it so you can keep their mindset prominent as you digest these words. After all, what matters is that it sounds good to them since theyre the ones judging it. Another tip to successful writing think about your audience. Proofread and edit. It is perfectly understandable that youll be extremely anxious to dot and cross those last is and ts and turn this essay in the moment you have finished. But little grammar, spelling, and punctuation mistakes are bound to happen along the way and youll never catch them if you dont dedicate a final read-through to simply searching for these errors. It may be the last thing youll want to do at that moment, but it could turn your essay from good to great. Youll be very happy later on that you put forth this extra effort. By focusing on these steps as you write, you will create an interesting essay that flows well and truly makes sense. Treat your essay as something you are building that you want to look fantastic these are your tools for successful construction.

Workplace Conflict Resolution using Mediation - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / Workplace Conflict Resolution using Mediation - Introvert Whisperer Workplace Conflict Resolution using Mediation Conflicts can arise from a lot of factors. The usual ways to resolve conflict cannot be done by the untrained individual. This part is where the professionals come in to help save the relationship. Workplace conflicts cannot be prevented. This one is primarily because of conflicting theories that come up at every point, different points of view that come up during meetings, and different beliefs in handling workplace issues. As a manager or as an employee, If you are looking at the best ways to do workplace conflict resolution, you should keep the information shared here in mind. The Things to Prevent in Case of Workplace Conflict For managers and supervisors, there are a few things that they cannot do during a time of conflict and they are listed below: First, you should not avoid the conflict. A common mistake that individual managers do is avoid the conflict as if it is not an issue. As a leader, you need to face the problem head-on because a conflict that you try to put under the bridge would just increase your level of stress and disagreements between employees. Whenever you allow a disagreement to go unresolved, you feed your employees with the belief that you they should survive despite feeling like they are walking on eggshells all the time. This fact would not lead to a good working environment, not for you nor for your employees. Second, you should not meet with the people in conflict separately. If you allow everyone to meet with you personally, you take the risk of polarizing their positions. It makes no possible sense for you to convince yourself of each side, you need to nip the problem at the root cause and hear both sides at the same time as it prevents partiality as well. You should remove the belief that the only people affected by the conflict are the participants. Everyone in the office would have to survive everyday knowing that a fight may erupt at any time. It is not going to be good for you nor for your employees to make them feel like this. By preventing the problem, you make it even bigger because you are pushing people to pick sides. The Right Way to Resolve the Conflicts There is a right way to resolve any kind of work conflict. The following are the steps that you can take in case of a conflict: Recognize that a problem exists The first thing that you should do is to recognize that a problem exists in your workplace or organization. Keep in mind that you should first accept the problem for you to be able to resolve it. Make sure that you do research first Keep in mind that before meeting with the people in conflict you should research and ask around. Ask people who are affected by the problem first and third-party individuals who may know anything about the issue. Clearing the problem is a good step to take as it allows you to make sure that you know all the facts before you meet the individuals Meet with the antagonists together You should meet them together. Let them summarize their points in front of the other while preventing the other from commenting or interrupting the other party. It should be a short discussion of the issues with all parties listening. During the meeting, make sure that the following are followed: The parties should not interrupt the other when the other is still talking. There should be no attack from either one of the parties. Both parties should be calm and collected. At the end of the meeting, you should ask each participant to discuss their expectations with the problem. Ask them to make a report that encompasses the following: The resolution that they expect to have; The compromise that they are willing to follow; and Their commitment that such problems would no longer be an issue in the future. By the time that the conflict has been resolved, you should get both parties to make a commitment on the changes that they will do to address the problem. What If the Problem Is Not Fixed? If the problem persists despite your conflict resolution methods, you should get a workplace mediator to help you. You may even decide to get one during your initial meeting with the parties so that you would have that foundation and assistance that you need to resolve the conflict. Conflicts Should Be Addressed As Soon As Possible Conflicts that go on for too long end up getting bigger and even more complicated. Stories give birth to more stories and misunderstandings lead to more misunderstandings. The right way to resolve conflicts is to address the problem as soon as you possibly can and that is close to its occurrence. Under Roman law, cremation and burial within the city were illegal. Romans created “cities for the dead” outside cities known as a “Necropolis” from the Greek “necro” meaning “dead” and “polis” meaning “city”. The Necropolis of the Via Triumphalis allows you to discover how Romans honoured the dead.  Vatican Hill was a muddle of individual and collective graves and tombs. They’ve survived incredibly well over 2,000 years. Finally, in the Excavations of St. John Lateran, there are remains of buildings built before the current Saint Peter’s Basilica.  If you love ancient history and art, the Vatican’s the place to go.Before you go to the Vatican, consider learning some Italian. While Latin is also the official language of the Vatican, you'll get much farther with Italian. There are plenty of talented Italian tutors on Superprof who can help you with this. With three different types of tutorial available, face-to-face tutorials, online tutorials, and group tutorials, each with their pros and cons, you need to carefully choose which one is right for you and your learning objectives.Face-to-face tutorials take pl ace with just you and the tutor. Your tutor will provide you with bespoke tuition and lessons that are tailored to you. Since this involves a lot of extra work for the tutor outside of the tutorials, you'll pay a premium for these types of tutorials. However, with the tutor's undivided attention, these tutorials are also the most cost-effective tuition you can get.Online tutorials come with a lot of the same benefits as face-to-face tutorials but your tutor won't be there in the room with you. While this works fine for academic subjects, these types of tutorials aren't always as effective for hands-on subjects. With fewer travel expenses, though, your tutor can charge less for the tutorials. Finally, group tutorials involve several students and one tutor. You won't get as much one-on-one time with your tutor but you won't pay as much per hour as the cost tutor's time is shared amongst all the students in the tutorial.

What is it Like to Attend University of Denver

What is it Like to Attend University of Denver The tutors behind Varsity Tutors are not just here to teach theyre sharing their college experiences as well. Nadine is currently a sophomore at University of Denver majoring in Spanish and Communications. She specializes infirstgrade throughninthgrade Math tutoring, as well as English tutoringand Spanish tutoring. Check out what she had to say about University of Denver: VT: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. How urban or safe is the campus? Are there buses or do you need a car/bike? Nadine:The University of Denver campus is quite small, so transportation never seems to be an issue. I personally longboard around campus, and many of my friends bike, but you can get from one side of campus to the other with a 15-minute walk. Students are given free RTD passes, which enable us to use any form of city transportation (i.e. buses and the light rail), but it is honestly unnecessary unless you are living very far from campus. University of Denver is located on the outskirts of the city. It is a very safe campus, but a 15-minute light rail ride can take you right into the heart of Denver. VT: How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Nadine:The professors and advisers I have had so far have been very available. If you email with a question, they will undoubtedly respond within 24 hours. If you are looking to meet during hours outside of their normal office hours, they are more than willing to work with you and to find a time that suits you both. VT: How would you describe the dorm life rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Nadine:Although I currently live off-campus, I thoroughly enjoyed my dorm experience. I lived in a Living and Learning Community, which anyone is able to apply for, and that is where I met the majority of my friends here at University of Denver. Living in the dorms is a great way to socialize with new people, but there are also plenty of clubs and organizations that one can become involved withI have also made a large amount of friends through my club involvements. There are two main dining halls, which serve a variety of food, as well as a few other places to each at, such as Subway or the late-night pub. VT: Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? What did you study and why? Did the university do a good job supporting your particular area of study? Nadine:University of Denvers Daniels College of Business is by far the most represented and supported here; many students come here specifically to study Business. However, I am currently double-majoring in Spanish and Communications. I chose these two majors because I am genuinely interested in them, and I know that I will choose a more specific subject related to teaching when I get my Masters degree. Although the main focus is Business, University of Denver supports all majors, and it even has an opportunity where you can create your own. VT: How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Nadine:Because I was very involved in clubs, club sports, and my Living and Learning Community, it was very easy to meet new people and make new friends. I would say that as long as you are willing to put in the effort to try new things, you will be successful in finding compatible friends. About 20% of students at University of Denver are involved in Greek life. I have many friends who enjoy it, but I personally decided not to be a part of it, and I have never felt my social life has suffered because of that choice. VT: How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Nadine:Although I have limited experience with the Career Center, the few times that I have visited were very helpful. The counselor I met with provided me with advice on applying to certain internships, and she goes out of her way to inform me of company opportunities that I may be interested in. VT: How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Nadine:I spend a lot of time in our library, which was built about two years ago. The library is beautiful and very spacious. There are multiple floors with varying silence levels. During midterms and finals, the library becomes much more crowded than usual, but there is never a problem finding a quiet place to study and get work done. VT: Describe the surrounding town. What kinds of outside establishments / things to do are there that make it fun, boring, or somewhere in between? To what extent do students go to the downtown area of the city versus staying near campus? Nadine:We are very fortunate to have Denver very close to our campus. It is a very unique and spacious city with a lot of opportunities. Some choose to go downtown for various reasons, but there are many choices around the general campus in terms of restaurants, bars, etc. If there is something you are looking for that is not near University of Denver, I am sure you will be able to find it with a quick ride on the light rail. VT: How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Nadine:The undergraduate population at University of Denver is around 5,500, which I believe is the perfect size. It is small enough where you are always running into someone you know, but also large enough where you are always meeting new people too. I have been very pleased with my class sizes so far. My largest class, which was a general science class, had about 60 students, and my smallest class had about 8. This year, my largest class has been about 25 students. I am very happy with the class sizes here. It was a large factor in picking University of Denver for my undergraduate education. VT: Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Nadine:For my Freshman Seminar Class, I took a course called Revolutions and Revolutionaries in Latin America, which I very much enjoyed. The professor was absolutely wonderful, and I learned a tremendous amount. One day in the spring, I was with a friend throwing a Frisbee around before our biology class, and my professor and his friend saw us and joined in. We played for about 15 minutes together, discussing random current events and joking around. I do not believe that at many schools I could have a close connection with a professor like this. I believe that the professors genuinely enjoy what they teach here, and it makes it much more enjoyable to be a student when the professor is passionate about what he or she is here for.
